This is the guide format Hassify exists for: a real device, paired in a real Melbourne home, with the exact entities it gives you in Home Assistant. We don't even sell this one — that's the point. If it works locally, we'll document it.
The device
IKEA's Zigbee smart switch — cheap, available at every IKEA, and fully local. Paired straight to Home Assistant through a Zigbee coordinator (we used a SONOFF ZBDongle-P): no IKEA hub, no IKEA app, no account.
Pairing
Put Home Assistant's Zigbee integration into pairing mode, hold the pair button until the LED blinks, and it appears in seconds. Ours identified instantly and took a name like any other device.

Works when the internet is down?
Yes — completely. Zigbee never touches the internet. Switching, automations and the power-on behaviour all live between the device and your hub.
Verdict
For the price, an easy yes. Four clean entities, OTA updates without an account, and blackout behaviour you control. It pairs through the same coordinator as everything else we stock — start with the ZBDongle-P if you don't have one.
